Let's continue to e-argue that we really do agree, when a phone call might resolve it.

What I mean:

Less light = the aesthetic color of white or silver you desire doesn't appear (meaning, the bark stays whatever color it is that you don't like, such as browner or greener). I don't mean that the color is there, and that you just can't see it. I DO mean that the exfoliation is there, and your photo proves that. And your contrast between a less lit side and a more lit side confirms what I believe to be true as well, at least in your extensive sampling.
