By the way, has anyone checked out their area Daffodil Society? http://daffodilusa.org/soc.html I just sent a check to the Southwestern Ohio Daffodil Society Bulb Sale and asked them to pick out several kinds of specimen bulbs so that I can begin showing daffs at their spring shows. I wonder how that will work out?! I hope they send along a 'mentor' too! They offered a list of about 40 cultivars, most of them daffs imported from New Zealand and Scotland and different exotic places. The prices were really great (for specimen show bulbs-- something like 3 for $5 or 5 for $5) so I hope it works out. This way I don't have to pay for shipping and the phyto-sanitary certificates for imports and still get interesting bulbs. (I hope, that is!). They were also offering other (rarer) bulbs at very good prices. And I am going to try to go to the Ohio Lily Society Fall Meeting and Bulb Sale: October 22, 2006 at Kingwood Center and Gardens, Mansfield, OH (A shameless plug.) And here's a fun interactive map that shows all the regional Lily Societies (so you can find one near you!) http://www.lilies.org/regionalmap.html http://www.lilies.org/regionals.html I think they have pretty good 'deals' on bulbs and lots of good info at these society meetings. |
