I've only had floribunda types live, and then the Japanese beetles eat them anyway. cherie-I love the definition of a friend and I'm going to email it to my best friend. We've been friends for 30 years, and still laugh until we cry whenever we get together. Okay y'all, just GUESS what i did? Lydia was technically DD#1's cat, which she adopted from a horse barn after her previous cat died of cancer. Emily was at college this year, so Lydia had really become my best buddy (I even let her catnip plant overrun my VERY best daylilies), and Emily was feeling miserable too, and i think kind of mad, and like no one understood....so I had a long talk and offered to take her to adopt another kitty of her choosing. Basically, she could choose a kitty for rescue in honor of Lydia, and I will care for it while she's at college. She hopped out of bed quickly, to my surprise, and said we had time to do that before work. The shelter is overrun with kitties - six calico mothers with litters, bunches of motherless kittens, half grown kittens, feral cats...we played with and held lots of them, and came home with the sweetest calico cat and her kitten. Emily already named the kitten Monster. He's full of it. The mother is a lot like Lydia, quiet, soft, and very purry. The minute you hold her the motor starts...she doesn't look like Lydia but seems like her. And the shelter mgr. said the mother cats are not quick to be adopted. Anyway, we freed up a cage so now they can take more. Emily had tears in her eyes, and hated to choose. But Lydia would be happy that another kitty or two get homes. And these will be indoor cats. Meet Monster and his mom. Emily wants us to wait to name her until she gets back from work! |
