I have discovered that to keep squirrels away I use picture wire. I screw a eye hook into a branch way up high as you can go. Then put one of those things that swirl around - I think it is called a snap swivel - then hang picture wire down and put another one of those twirly things. Then hook the bird feeder on that. They are unable to figure out how to slide down it so they don't. I now have all the bird feeders and suet feeders hanging like that and they can not conquer it at all. Hope this helps!!
