I didn't take a pic of a bare stake but all home centers and nurserys I think, carry these green stakes that are for wire fencing. They're kind of flat with little tabs along the rib to hook the wire fence under. Then at the bottom theres a flat triangular piece welded on and when the stake is driven into the ground, the flat piece stabilizes it.

1 1/2" pvc pipe just slides over those stakes. So I cut 24" pieces of pvc; used the rustoleum plastic paint to paint my band, then put an end cap on top. Cheap, extremely durable and with the plastic paint you could color coordinate seasonaly, yearly, whatever. :)

Here's a series of shots around the yard with the stakes guiding my hose around the bend. (I found I can also set a beer on top (if level) when I need to twohand something)
