Note the aposematic coloration to help ward off predators. The butterfly also has aposematic coloration. Because of this, the butterfly is slow flying and will often appear on nectar flowers with it's wings wide open and appears to be poseing for a picture. Most parts of the Coontie plants are dangerously poisionous. A group of the cats are shown in the picture below. Hopefully in a few weeks I will have some good Atala Butterfly shots for you. Art |
