Good morning everyone. I, too, was up at 5:30 but it was Pacific Time! So far this morning I have done nothing productive other than sweeping the firewood area because it was empty. Made myself a cup of tea, checked the horses when it was light enough to see them through the kitchen window, cuddled the kitty and sat here reading. My DH built the fire this morning and carried in some wood and is now sitting with his cup of coffee reading. He liked the 14 cents each books I got him, has already finished both of them. He doesn't speed read, just skims over a lot of the extra, wordy stuff that takes up space and adds little to the story. Makes me think of the cop who kept telling his interviewees "just the facts, Ma'am, just the facts". Was his name Joe Friday?

Maria, the snow on the trees is just beautiful. I have to drive a few miles toward the mountains to get that Christmas card effect, we have no evergreens near us.

Ugh, lice. Something that I have never had to deal with, thank the Lord. I do remember friends dealing with it with something called Rid-ex or some similiar name, washing the kids' hair every evening before bed, washing bedding, combs, hats, clothes. It only takes one infected kid and spreads fast. One family got rid of it about 3 times and then one of the kids would borrow a stocking cap or use a friends hairbrush at school and start the whole thing over. It went on all winter and through every school in the area. Some families had kids in 2 or 3 schools. Besides the disgusting part and all the extra work involved, getting the kids to think is the real challenge.

Well, here it is a bit later, my DH is heading for town to investigate an armed robbery in our quiet little town of about 9000. I need to call our son and DIL in about an hour to postpone our family breakfast until tomorrow morning.

Our temperature is about 0 this morning again. Yesterday's high was 20 with sun all day. The greenhouse got up to about 75. I have the furnace set on the lowest setting so overnight it only gets down to about 50-55 unless we are having a blizzard. My remote thermometer got down to 45 once when it was -15 outside with a howling wind and blowing snow. If the power goes out the fans quit but the furnace has a pilot light so it keeps going.

My big jade started as a 3 inch cutting in 1982. I did some trimming on it sometime in the first 5 years or so and planted the trimmed pieces in the same pot so now there are about 6 trunks. Last year the older one started blooming, this year the whole thing is. Here is a closeup of the bloom from last winter.

Have a good day everyone, count your blessings.
