m5, sounds like YOU did have big plans for today. Do you make raspberry jam with berries frozen earlier in the season? Hope the hair color worked out well.

Elaine - glad you were feeling better this morning. Others have advised you to take Vit C and drink water. I also take some Echinacea and something with Zinc in it.

Maria - yes. Glad to have DH home. He got home on Friday and seems fine. He's finished with his oral antibiotics today. He generally "hangs out" with the grandkids on Thursdays. Sometimes I help out (and I did more when they were younger because it would take two adults to safely take them to the park at one stage), but I tell him that as far as making a REGULAR weekly commitment, no way. I did my bit when our kids were little and he was travelling all over the Arctic for several weeks at a time and only sporadic radio contact in those days. He brought the kids here after Kindermusik this afternoon and they enjoy playing the piano and with a few toys we have here that they don't have at home. The driving isn't a full three hours because we are at Kindermusik for about an hour, but it takes a three hour hole out of my day off.

Yes, we have Dr. Oetker products now in Canadian stores, but I didn't realize they were amde here. Thought they were all limported from Germany. That's where I first encountered them was when we lived in Germany - 1976-77. They were a standard brand for baking products. Is there something that you think I might find in Canada that you can't find? If so, I'll take a look.

Kelly, as above, DH is doing well.

Re weight loss, let's all remind each other come early January. But not too early. My big party is January 7. LOL but I was down 2 pounds this week when I reported into Weight Loss Challenge this morning. Not sure why, but it seems to be legit. I'm not likely to fit into the green silk suit from my daughter's wedding by Christmas time though. Guess I'll look at St. Patrick's day.

Kooger, I hope your meeting with the boss went in your favour. You did the right thing.

Mary E, I quit sending most Christmas cards last year. Postage costs did me in. When I get a chance I'll put up a Christmas greeting on our web site and e-mail everyone a link to it. And with the money I save, I'll make a charitable donation.

Talking about hiding things from DH's makes me think of the volunteers at the Food Cupboard. I've been known to lock the last large can of coffee (for the vols) or box of tea bags in our safe 'cause they never tell me we are getting low on things until it's too late.

mg - take care of that infected thumb. Finger infections have been known to become more major infections.

darius, your rosemary olive oil bread spread with organic cream cheese and topped with sliced kalamata olives sounds great. Makes me hungry. Elaine, if you've got a similar recipe, please share. Oh, you're way ahead of me. Just came to it.

Sylvia, I'll keep your brother and wife in my prayers. Keep us posted.

Babs, hope nobody gets into accidents while you are on your shifts. It's getting into party time of year.

Nice cactus M5 and I agree with Babs about the pot. If I remember, I'll attach one of mine which overdid itself in blooming a short time ago.

Sylvia, they need some cool and darkness. I put mine out in the screened porch for the summer and when I bring them in - late September, they are always covered in buds and generally bloom in November. When they are finished, I have them on window shelves in an east window in the living room. since we have the TV in the basement, they have longer hours of darkness and coolness from being near the window in the winter and mine often bloom again in the spring.

I have an older variety, smiggled across the Canadian border in 1970 from a second cousin's plant. It's blooming right now and looks almost as good as the one in the picture, but being an older variety, the flower buds are very light sensitive and if you turn the direction of the plant relative to the window or light, the buds will twist themselves off.

We had a good bell practice this evening though we did drop one piece of music. Played through everything else and I tink it will go well tomorrow at the US Embassy. Our foam pads (or 6 of them - we have 9 total) are all bundled up and ready to be packed into a van. This morning, I adjusted all three octaves of bells that we are taking. Mostly just a tweak here and there on the spring adjustments or setting all the cclapper heads on uniform settings, but I had to take one bell completely apart to get at the small adjusting screw on it.
We have a couple of bells that are unusually bright and I put a small piece of moleskin on the clapper to tone them down.

I've brought our red scarves home for a wash and iron. Someone else washed all the "communal" gloves, though many of us have our own gloves now.

We will all (except for a few coming from work) gather at the church around 11 tomorrow morning. Those of us travelling with the bells will go ahead and everyone else will meet at the embassy at 12:15. Wish us luck.

this is WAY too long. Better send it. Have a good night everyone.

Ann
