So funny, I have the same setup. I first started out using the bottom plastic container without the shelf then one day I was in Walmart and saw the shelf and thought I would give it a try. I was having to tape all my cuttings to the container. I had a few cuttings that were to big for the openings so had to cut a couple of them larger. I didn't have to make the legs shorter, but all you would have to do is not to install the legs at all just set the shelf on top of your container. I have 4 bubblers in mine. I have found out the bubblers are more quiet in a plastic container then in glass.
