I just joined recently myself and EVERYONE here has been so nice and kind! You're going to love it! We are an eclectic group and that's what makes us so chatty :-) BB- I'm glad your exam went so smoothly. I wonder if the anesthesiologist used *Versed*. It's a wonderful drug, that is if you have good renal function, and makes life so much easier and less anxious with conscious sedation. The amnesic quality is what's really nice! My hat's off to the inventor of the stuff....bugger anyway, if I'd invented it, I'd be RETIRED now! I love reading about all the folks with Mum's who sewed. My Mum did too, made most of our clothes when we were younger. I remember standing on a chair in the dining room while she *fitted the pattern* to me or had to *make adjustments* before she put on the finishing touches. Mummy learned to sew on a treadle machine in the orphanage and used to make most everything, curtains, bed spreads, upholstery, you name it. I've been making *chemo cuddlers*. It started out as something I made for the chap next door who has Pancreatic CA and is undergoing treatments weekly in Seattle. He gets so cold during the chemo, so I made him a comforter out of a flat bed sheet and some fleecy material. I wanted Bob to have something to give him a smile, so I bought *Nemo* fleece for the inside of the comforter and used a complimentary blue sheet for the outside. (Bob's wife started calling them chemo cuddlers). The first time he took it with him for chemo, the Nurse Manager at Virginia Mason Hospital called me and asked if I could make more. She sent me a *quilt journal* and now I make them, take a picture of the comforter and when it's given to someone, they take a picture and send it to me with a little information about the patient who receives the comforter. I've gotten the nicest cards and calls from the recipients. defoecat- I read your post and have great empathy for you when it comes to being the *care giver* in the family. There's always one in every family that is either the one deemed the caregiver or one that just seems to step into that place. I know, I'm the caregiver in my family. I don't know so much that I'm the one because of my chosen profession or is it just my nature or a little of both? Not quite sure, but I do know your frustration and I'm sure at times anger with the others who shirk their responsibilities and allow you to take the burden. Just be assured, your burdens are noticed and in the end, you'll have made someone else's life better because you cared! Many blessings on you dear. Guess it's time to make a pot of tea. I haven't had me morning cuppa yet and I need to clear the fog! Hugs to you all :-) |
