Goodies in the mail today!!! ... a new silpat (for baking). Mine just diasppeared 2 months ago. (HOW can that happen in a 900 sq. ft. apartment?) My caladium bulbs from the caladium co-op came, and a "beater jar" I won off ebaY.

When I was growing up, like everyone we'd have pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving and Christmas and I always got to whip the cream after I became a teenager. My grandfather had this beater jar which we would chill overnight in the refrigerator. The glass was very thick, so when the cream was whipped, it wouldn't separate while on the table. The beater jar originally had a top with an integral hand beater, like the old egg beaters but we never used that part, just an elec. beater. I'm sure the jar must have belonged to my grandmother who died when I was 5.

There have been many beater jars on ebaY but none like my grandmother's. I have looked for one for a long time, and finally one came up on ebaY 2 weeks ago and I bid on it... and won. If I NEVER make whipped cream again, I am still thrilled to have it!
