I brought back 4 seeds from Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens when I was on holiday in Cape Town this past December that I will plant in about 4-6 weeks. The last time I grew strelitzia reginae(orange variety) from seed was in 1985 and it took 10 years for it to bloom in New Orleans. But since then, it has bloomed and flourished in my garden both in New Orleans and now in Houston when I transplanted here over 8 years ago. I am just hoping to find an actual plant of the Mandela's Gold cultivar that I can incorporate in to many garden now, rather than waiting so long. The yellow flowers are striking at dusk.
