After a couple of cold spells in January, our Shell Ginger suffered some damage and I had to prune out quite a bit this spring. It is now flowering and I know that requires a lot of energy from the plant. My question is this, if I prune the flower off before it fades, will it prevent the entire stalk from dying? I\'d rather have the plant use the energy to grow new shoots. I\'m sure everyone thinks it\'s crazy to get rid of the flowers but I really would like the plants to fill back out before we have our big event here this fall.
