I have cuttings of other Orchid cacti, they are pretty straightforward, but not real fast to get going. Once they have rooted they do grow fast. You should do it- also, if you want the trellis in the same location as the tree you are taking out, it may sprout up even if you remove all the top growth. Cool plant! I sprouted the seeds of a Dragon Fruit I ate, now have seedlings-What the heck will I do with them in Seattle?
They commercially grow Dragon Fruit, on very sturdy trellises. I am a little unclear about the names and genetics, but Dragon fruit is very similar or possibly even the same as NBC. You could google the subject to find out just how sturdy it needs to be. Does yours make fruit?
