Taken on 12th April 2008, Lincoln UK. A queen, they emerge in late spring after winter hibernation. This has three yellow bands, two on the thorax, a third on top of the abdomen.

The bottom band on the thorax is narrower than the top band in the middle, unlike the similar B. ruderatus. The white tail has a straight line where the white on B. ruderatus goes up the sides.

On 25th July, climbing around Clematis 'Juuli' before cleaning it's very, very long tongue!
by wallaby1 Nov 29, 2008 9:28 PM
The tongue is hung, but that's not all of it!
by wallaby1 Nov 29, 2008 9:29 PM
The middle of the tongue stretches from the outer guides.

And the tongue stretches even more! Where it puts it I do not know!
