Taken on 27th October 2008, Lincoln UK. One of the largest Syrphids in Britain at 16mm long.

With an unmistakable pattern, but there is one similar and rarer, S. lappona which is slightly smaller and has parallel bars, also paler yellow.

It had a quick feed on Ivy flowers.

This is a female with eyes apart. Habitat is normally peatland which doesn't fit my area, more common in the north and west of Britain in typical habitat.
