The Comanche is one of only two skimmers in the South Central US that has a distinctive bicolored stigma - black and white. The the stigma in some locations can be brown and white. The Comanche is distributed westerly and only narrowly overlaps with the Spangled Skimmer in East-Central Texas. The male is a beautiful blue while the female tends to be a golden greenish brown, with golden veins along the entire costa.

This dragonfly is very approachable for photographs, usually found around weedy ponds and lakes.

The attached photos were taken in Chaves County, New Mexico - at the Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge, just east of Roswell.
