An insect vector transmitting X. fastidiosa (Pierce's Disease), a serious threat to grapes. This insect overwinters in riparian areas found along the Pacific coast and Sierra Nevada foothills and also thrives in backyard landscapes in coastal urban and suburban communities. It's spread is considered epidemic in coastal grape-growing areas and many resources are being spent to study biological, cultural and chemical controls of this pest.
