According to a biology professor in Wisconsin, this spider, while relatively small, can and has been known to bite people. I caught one in my garden, and sent pictures to him for identification. Now that I know what it is, I will release it, and keep an eye out for them in the future. Even though it may bite, it is not considered to be dangerous to humans. Its venom is not potent enough to cause serious harm. It's bite is comparable to a bee sting, but due to its feeding habit on dead organisms, secondary infections due to bacteria may occur. It is a hunting spider that does not make a web, but will create a hiding place using web in a rolled up leaf or in the grass.
